CONDENSED HISTORY OF THE DOUBLE EVENT First Part * The Coney Island Jockey Club has always liccn noted for the ingenuity displayed In devising the conditions of its stakes and none on its long and varied annual program has proved more successful and attractive than the Double Kvent. Divided into two races one run on the first day of its June meeting and the other on tin- last day — it has always luceu contested by crack two year-olds and it is but natural that owners have been keenly desirous of winning bath races with one two year old. This occurred live times in its first eight years, but since Ornament won both parts in 1S!M no other aspirant has been successful iu the feat, ••veil the mighty Hamburg failing and suffering one of his infrequent defeats in the first part.
