GENTEEL LADY FIRST Registers Her Fourth Success at De ¬ troit in Mondays Feature Under Masterful Ride by Jockey S i Young Filly Defeats Fretful and Martin Barton Handily DETROIT Mich July 30 Genteel Lady a Dixianabred daughter of Black Servant and Saramar and a stakes winner as a two yearold carried the colors of C E Gar rigan to her most important triumph of the year and registered her fourth success of the Detroit meeting when she was a handy winner of the sixth race the principal at ¬ traction offered at the Fair Grounds here this afternoon Fretful carried J G Langs Elmtree Stable colors into second place a length back of the winner and slightly more than a length before J A Bests Martin Bar ¬ ton which led Bartering Kate Bing Crosby and General Pulaski to the finish of the six furlongs furlongsUnder Under 110 pounds the most the filly has been called upon to tote this year and given a masterful ride by Sterling Young Gen teel Lady sprinted the distance in 113 and registered the fourth victory of the afternoon for the talent talentIt It was during the run to the stretch where General Pulaski Bartering Kate and Bing Crosby were fighting for leadership that Young used his good judgment He was con ¬ tent to allow General Pulaski to slip through I on the inside and wrest the lead from Bar ¬ tering Kate in the run to the far turn He bided his time as Bing Crosby was rushed into the lead shortly afterwards but ap ¬ proaching the stretch he called on the Gar rigan miss and she forged to the front be ¬ fore reaching the final threesixteenths threesixteenthsAfter After establishing a clear advantage Young took a hold of the winner as Fretful made her belated rush on the inside and Martin Barton charged down on the out ¬ side During the final furlong the leaders had things their own way with Bartering Kate outlasting the others to finish in fourth position N NContinued Continued clear and cool weather was largely responsible for the goodsized crowd that viewed the eightrace program The track was at its best and the public was fortunate for favorites were more success ¬ ful than they have been in the past four days of racingThe racing The third end two lengths back of the winner and thrae lengths before Prometheus which got Tin to beat Meloy by half a length for the minor award awardMeloy Meloy was taken back repeatedly in the first threeeighths and approaching the stretch C Hooper sent him to the outside where he finished on his own courage Ten Michiganowned maiden twoyearolds contested the first race and it resulted in a mild surprise and a close finish with W J Bowlings Sassenach beating tho stanchly supported Chinese Indian Nice abits and Paradox Girl coupled as the Wolverine Sta ¬ ble entry were third and fourth respectively respectivelyAfter After forcing the pace to the final six ¬ teenth the winning son of Saxon and Zeka wore down Chinese Indian to beat him a half length at the end The latter was three quarters of a length before Nice Habits which came from far back to be ja half length in the van of her stablemate stablemateAfter After thirteen unsuccessful efforts the Hastings Stables Socialite was graduated from the maiden ranks when the daughter of White Satin and Lady Carolyn was a driving winner over Lenawee Oh Ray and seven other maiden threeyearolds that con ¬ tested the threequarters second race raceWell Well handled and saved back of the pace of Oh Ray until near the stretch the winner forged to the front under H Wests urging and after establishing a clear lead main ¬ tained it when Lenawee made her belated charge After reaching second position mid ¬ way of the stretch and disposing of the tir ¬ ing Oh Ray with ease Lenawee failed to offer Socialite a serious threat Oh Ray was nearly four lengths back of Lenawee and a head before Breezing Along at the finish The well admired Gertrude S was never a factor factorOutsprinting Outsprinting her opponent from the start A L Fergusons Julia Grant graduated from the maiden twoyearold ranks when she was a driving winner of the third race which fashioned for juveniles under claiming con ¬ ditions attracted a field of ten over five and a half if uriongsl uriongslSecond Second went to Good Dame a slight fa ¬ vorite over the winner with Suncircle Blaze third Critchfield got the daughter of General Grant Dame Thunder in the van immediately and after drawing away into a length and a half advantage in the run to the stretch held on well as Good Dame came with her belated challenge In the final furlong however Good Dame tired and she was driving at the end to beat Suncircle Blaze by half a lengthfor second
