Best of Breed Registers Popular Detroit Triumph Neumann Filly Along in Closing Strides to Overtake Mr. Tweety By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent. DETROIT, Mich., June 5.— Best of Breed, a well-conformed daughter of Bull Dog and At Top, a member Mrs. Otto C. Neumanns The Farm stable, sped to a popular victory here today in the third race, which brought together seven three-year-olds. Smartly ridden by Darrell Madden, who was completing a saddle double, the Neumann filly was along in the last stirdes of the six-furlong sprint to earn a head decision from Mrs. E. Farris hard-charging Mr. Tweety. Just a length off the lapped leaders, Henry Forrests Lease Hound gave a good effort to annex the short end of the purse while Waldo D. Andrews Leas Son, early pacemaker, ran fourth. * Best of Breedrwho was making her second appearance under colors, carried 113 pounds over the fast track in 1:13. She was favorite in the totalisator at 7 to 5. Leas Son, away tardily, was hustled to the front and opened a long lead "before going a quarter-mile while Madden kept Best of Breed going steadily in second position and Lease Hound occupied third place to the stretch. Best of Breed, however, had something left and when Madden set her down through the final furlong, she nipped Mr. Tweety during the last strides. Lease Hound raced well to get third while Leas Son, weary from his display of early foot, finished a soundly beaten fourth. Ky. Hash, who races under the-silks of Mrs. K. L. Morton, daughter of the well-known Motor City thoroughbred owners, Mr. and Mrs. James R. Collins, captured the six furlongs opener by a neck margin under a strong ride from Eddie Danhauer. Ky. Hash,- winner of a previous outing in Kentucky was all out to beat J. O. Hew-gleys Sharp .Tool, who took the place, by a length over Mrs. J. R. Burnetts Irrawaddy, favorite and early pacemaker in the sprint. Ky. Hash, aptly-named four-year-old daughter of Hash and Kentucky Rose, stepped the three-quarters mile in 1:12% and she was overlooked by the majority of the 8,000 spectators on hand this pleasant afternoon, returning backers 3.80 straight. Mrs. Joseph M. Brooks Port Beaumont, a Texas-bred gelding, the get of Yankee Cousin and Miss Brownking, proved best of the nine sophomores meeting in the six furlongs second race. Kept in a forward position by Darrell Madden from the start of the dash, Port Beaumont was along in the last strides to beat James Paddocks Gal-la jaci by a neck. The latter salvaged second honors three and one-half lengths before Patrick OBriens New Orleans-owned OBriens Pat. Grace Clarks Arab Miss came from well back to save fourth money.
