Beauty Takes Place in Seth Purse; Warm Weather, Good Card Attracts 11,439 By J. J. MURPHY Staff Correspondent SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111.. May 11. — Dink, a three-year-old owned by Marion VanBerg. scored as a short-priced favorite in the best race here this afternoon. The son of Gold Captain engaged eight others of his own age over the seven furlong distance and at the finish was six lengths to the good and racing easily. Ky. Beauty, owned by Tom McCarty, put on a good finish to beat Grace Kosibas Head East for second place, while William Hal Bishops Red Fiddler, the second choice, finished fourth. Dink, who finished third in his first outing of the meeting and later came back to be second, was clearly best today. Jockey Lois Cook, who returned to the saddle following his visit to Kentucky, sent him to the front early and Dink soon drew away from the pack. The red roan gelding has been a good money maker for owner Van-Berg, whose horses have not fared so well here. He won five races last year and this was his second success this season. Summerlike weather again prevailed today and the prospects of good sport on a fast track drew 11,439 patrons to the course. Opener to Wood H. Wood H., owned by Mrs. Nellie Mikel, won the opening race as the favorite and Dark Pigeon, from the stable of F. Kur-inec, took the second to produce a 8.60 Daily Double. William Cox had Wood H. in front all the way, while Dark Piegeon came from fifth place under the urging of Don Wagner. It was the second victory of the year for Dark Pigeon. Solicit, a three-year-old from the stable of Mrs. Fred W. Hooper, was an easy winner in the third. Jockey Harold Keene sent the son of Requested to the front early and he drew away on the backstretch to have a five -length margin at the end. Seven horses met at one and one-six-tenth miles in the fourth, and Phaelater, recently claimed by E. J. Bolser, was a driving winner over Gatita II. Phaelater went to the front early and withstood a challenge from the favored Transatlantic to have enough left to take it by a head with Eldon Coffman in the saddle. It was the first score of the year for Phaelater. The six-year-old mare Jimmys Doll came through for her new owner, E. Madison, in the fifth. The daughter of Chance Play has ridden by Clarence Roberts and came through an opening in the stretch to easly defeat Par Boy and pay 4.20. Last time Jimmys Doll finished first was at Gulf stream Park, and she was disqualified and placed third.
