Stallion Directory and Farm Register Plans for Alerted On His Retirement Will Conclude Campaigning In Fall; To Stand Next Year At Glade Valley in Maryland By HUGH J. McGUIRE Staff Correspondent WATERFORD PARK, Chester, W. Va., June 26. Announcer George Cook has supplied us with some interesting points concerning the planned retirement to the stud of the durable stake campaigner Alerted. The son of Bull Lea Hastily Yours, by John P. Grier, is now six and has become somewhat "cute." He is to be rested before making his final starts on the track at Saratoga and the fall meetings, but is destined to be retired to stand at the Glade Valley Farm of H. B. Marcus, in Maryland next season. ? Purchased from Calumet Farm as a two-year-old for a reported 0,000, Alerted has made more than 100 starts for the Hampton Stable of Frank J. Stout of Maiden, Mass., and has -a score of 20 wins, 22 seconds and 18 thirds, earning 40,285. Because of the frequency with which he finished second and third to the best of rivals he was called the most dangerous horse in training. Syndicate of Twenty-Five Shares Unless he meets with accidents, Alerted will be retired entirely sound. Standing in Maryland should give impetus to the breeding, industry in that state. Present plans are to retire him in syndication of 25 shares, of which seven will be retained by the Hampton Stable. Alerted won at distances of from six furlongs to a mile and three-quarters, denoting both speed and stamina. He was trained by several different conditioners before his present trainer Ray De-Stefano, took him over. He was indifferent to riders, having been piloted by 23. Alerted was an inveterate traveler and it apparently had no ill-effects on him. During his career he met such top competition as Tom Fool, Royal Vale, Battlefield, Hill Prince and, Mark-Ye-Well.
