Texas Plains Registers Double at ThistleDown Takes American Flag Purse Oyer Betty Barr and Coburns Wish Continued from Page One fans who witnessed the program conducted over a deep and muddy strip, held a six-length advantage rounding the bend ot this five and a half furlong dash, but when straightened for home, the son of Cassis shortened his strides to rarely more than a gallop. Texas Plains, a son of Gilded Knight — Gyrette, who was humbled over a sloppy strip earlier at the session and won over dry footing, paid 3.00 after convincingly downing this group. He was timed the distance in 1:10. Bad News and Great Fun, two of seven spirnters who competed in the fourth race, battled on enarly even terms for command from the furlong marker to the finish line and the former got the nod. Ridden by Alfred. Tryon„Bad News had speed from the start but it was the stamina she displayed in the final stages that pleased the scattered backers who collected 2.40 after the victory. War Dauber was favored but he finished third a length .behind the top pair. Because he finished second to Mr. Fantastic here recently Mr. C. G. was most heavily backed in the third race. They were correct in selecting this one as choice for Mr. C. G. splashed his way to victory by three lengths while J. William saved the place by a hand full of lengths over Snow Willow. Clarence Roberts quided Mr. C. G. over -the five furlongs in 1:04% and the winner paid. .40. Ala Pam, a four-year-old filly who usually breaks poorly and in the first race lunged and stumbled badly when she left the stall gate, was so far back the opening stages of this dash of six furlongs it hardly seemed possible she had a chance to collect a purse. However, heading for home she suddenly turned on a burst of speed which brought her into a contending position and nearing the end displaced the leaders to score by a length margin over Ring Fleet while next at the line was Far Sail. Apprentice George Leone handled Ala Pam, who registered her first victory in 11 at- tempts this year for her partnership owners, Hall and Fetzer. Ala Pam, because of her gate habits, was overlooked in the wagering and paid 5.40. Jockey Paul A. Ward, who starred in the saddle locally the past two days, had his* picture taken in the winners enclosure astride Dorchester Farm Stables Jett-Belle in the second race. Coming from far back, Jett-Belle circled horses with a strong bid the final furlong to tally going away by two lengths over Wee Moon with Roberta, Win completing the finish order. * - J t
