LAURA COTTAS GOOD RACE RACEFine Gracefulness Fine weather and prospects of a good track and a fair card brought out a good crowd to Sheffield yesterday It was a disastrous day for the talent as not a favorite won but Reveille Bob Wagner Laura Gotta Ota and Lismore Limo were all well supported second choices The feature of the day was the extremely clover ride of little Dorsey Dose on Laura Cotta inthe inter fourth race The filly got off none to well was last but one all along the back stretch and at the threequarter treasurer the boy never hurt the filly but made up ground gradually At the eighth pole ho made his run and overhauled theleaderCaufield and beat him home handily making a strong finish Specula ¬ tion ion was brisk and the ring did a good business businessIn business In the opening event Margeurito Marguerite R was a slight favorite but Reveille mot with support Esther W was off in front to a fair start but dropped back at once Ginka Gina Gallopade Galloped and Dave Sloan alternatly alternately led most of the way but at the eighth pole Reveille came to the front and won easily D Davis gave Gallopade Galloped a bad mile and Warren did not do much better for Marguerite R Aunt Sallie was cut down badly about the turn but finished a game third thirdOld third Old WSrren Wren Leland was made favorite in the second race but the erratic Bob Wagner had matters nearly all his own way Off fifth ho went to the front at once ana though Glenoid Genocide got his head in front for a few strides Bob Wag ¬ ner near always held him safe winning easily by two lengths Outgo ran well and was a good third thirdThe third The third race produced a good thing in Vir Vr gie gibe Dixon a daughter of Sir Dixon and Virgie Virile D She opened at 6 to 1 went back to 20 to 1 at which price the stable got a small commission and went to the post at 12 to 1 Deposit was a receding favorite with Sugar backed from 6 to 4 to 1 second choice Sugar and Virgio Virgo Dixon were in front all the way the latter well ridden by Hathersall Heathers raced to the front in the stretch and winning by three lengths lengthsLillian lengths Lillian E was an absentee in the fourth event and Cautield Cutie was favorite Blacking Brush and Caufield Coalfield raced in front most of the journey Laura Cotta lying back At the threequarters treasurers Dorsey Dose on Laura Cotta moved up and in the stretch she was second Caufield Coalfield loading Blacking Brush swerved in the home run and Caufield Coalfield and Laura Cotta both wobbled before the finish but Dorsey Dose managed to land the daughter of Terra Cotta a winner by half a length lengthExcuse length Excuse was favorite for the fifth race at seven furlongs Ashland made the running to the half where Aunt Lida Linda went to the front In the stretch Gomor Gomorra took second place Ashland dropping back Gomor Gomorra came fast at the finish and won handily by a length Aunt Lida Linda who is a little short beat Hazel Hatch by a head for the place Excuse was never prominent prominentIn prominent In the last race Lismore Limo went to the front soon after the start and never being headed won ridden out by two lengths Fusilier badly handled beat Designer ten lengths for the place placeThe placate The Illinois Central will run trains to the Sheffield track today starting fr m Randolph and Van Buren Burn streets streetsThe streets The Milwaukee stakes filled well Buck Massie Massive is in them So are Hankiis Hankies Johnsons Johnson best Barney Schreiber puts his good threeyearolds in the Derby All about the quality in all the events is excellent excellentB excellent B J Johnsons Johnson foreman LDrake Drake is in prison at Louisville lie cannot bo bailed before a preliminary hearing Neal whom ho killed ad ¬ mitted emitted t j the surgeon who attended him that he was after Drake Neal used to work for Ed Corrigau Corrigan and was a good horseman but ugly individual Barney Schreiber sends a band of his horses to Sheffield today D Williams will train them In it is Harmony who goes into the Indiana Derby Don Carillo Carillon will probably come in a day or two and also go into the Derby Schillei Chile too is a probability
