THE HORSES AT MEMPHIS A gentleman who is well posted in racing af ¬ fairs sends the following items of track gossip from Memphis that will prove interesting to DAILY RACING FORMS readers If you want to see real race horses you should see some of those at Montgomery Park The stables belonging to J W Schorr Scorer Son C T Patterson J C and AbeCahn Beechen T P Hayes and others are in the very pink of condition Ornament looking better than ever has worked a quarter in 25 Meadowthorpe Meadow in 26 and Algol his stable companion in 244 apd aped of course the talk is all Algol But it was the same last spring Ho could work a quarter or a half faster than anybodys anybody horse yet did nothing Knowing ones say he is purely a sprinter and will not go a route routeOrnament counteragent Ornament is the horse Charley Patterson makes no complaint about the weights in the Brooklyn and Suburban Handicaps He says he always thought his colt would get the top weight He has received offers from different parties who wish to buy Ornament and says he can be bought at his price although he is not anxious to sell sellJi sell Ji MfMurphys Cainero Caner looks good and is taking his1 daily gallops Streamer the Topgal Opal ¬ lant leant colt is also doing remarkably well Mr Murphy will ship from San Francisco about March 1 Andy Blakely Blackly ships the jumpers Capt Caput Peirsal Perusal Southworth Southport and Col Cool Woightman Weight in the same car carCaptain caricaturing Captain Rees tells me he will go to San Fran ¬ cisco about March 1 to resume his position as presiding judge at Ingleside Ingles John J Carter will probably leave there when Captain Rees arrives as he will preside at Nashville when they open April 1 1The The weights for the Montgomery Handicap are due February 15 and the field should be a good one as the best of the western horses are entered About the middle of this month young Schorr Scorer will bring the New Orleans division to Memphis Tommy Burns will come with him to rest until the local meeting begins J W Schorr Scorer Son will have twentyeight twenty in training this year A part of the stable will be raced in the east with Johnny Schorr Scorer who is only eigh Leigh ¬ teen years old as trainer
