Hicks rode a strong finish on Star Gazer and got him up in-the last stride. Sir Christopher was much the best. Smiths carelessness cost him the race. He attempted to draw the finish close and had his mount under a stout pull through the last sixteenth and eased him up almost to a canter at the end. Limelight came from away back in the stretch run, finished fast and caught Bummer II. tiring at the end. Fickle Saint showed early speed, but tired badly in the last furlong. Phillips kept him in the good going for the entire trip and rode a strong finish. Fuller allowed Farmer Jim to swerve into the deep going in the stretch run. He stumbled a couple of times in the last sixteenth and almost went to his knees. Blueblaze tired. Moderator tired badly after going a good half and finished a sixteenth of a mile behind.
