CELLA RUMOR RIFE AGAIN. ST. LOUIS MAN, HOWEVER, STILL DENIES CONNECTION WITH BUTLER. Holtman Is Appointed as Starter for .the Empire City Meeting Nothing From the Jockey Club. New York, July 27. Matt J. Winn made the announcement this afternoon that, because of the Jockey Clubs objection to their having any connection witli the Empire City track, Joseph A. Murphy and A. B. Dade had formally declined the positions of presiding judge and starter respectively, and that Jake Holtman, who Is at present in Cincinnati, has been selected to do the starting. Beyond this there was nothing forthcoming as to the plans for the proposed meeting. The Jockey Club, unless the fact that Murphy and Dade were advised not to accept positions can be taken as a sign of the way the wind will blow, has not Indicated what its answer will be to the application for anroval of dates and racing officials. The opening date set by Mr. Butler is just a week away from tomorrow and not a few people arc. getting anxious over the situation. The rumor that L. A. Cella and J. L. Rhinock are interested with Mr. Butler in the track is again being persistently circulated and this time It comes through channels which lead to men close in the councils of the Jockey Club. Messrs. Cella and Rhinock deny the rumor with much stress.
