Tlie Derby has been reduced to twenty-three eligibles by declarations, but Peter Pan, Frank Gill and Charles Edward are left In, and if only the three are sent to tlie post a glorious race should result. In fact, outside of Yankee Girl, it is difficult to perceive any reason why any of tlie other eligibles should be started. Hickory, Paumonok aud Saracinesca being best of these, and all held safe by the formidable trio first named. It has not been the custom to waste time with Charles Edward, and if he is cnt loose from tlie start Frank Gill and Peter Pan will not be slow in following, so a record-breaking Derby may result. The fastest so far run is that of 1904, when Ort Wells won in , 2:325.
