TO BET IS NOT CRIMINAL. New York, August 27. According to the statement of Supreme Court Judge Gaynor betting is not a crime. "Go through the penal code from stem to stern," said Judge Gaynor, "and there is nothing to show that if you and I make a bet it is a crime. Millions of persons in this country hink that to make a bet Is unlawful; that If two women bet a pair of gloves it is against the law. The whole question in this case is whether here is a doubt as to tills being a gambling game." Judge Gaynors opinion had to do with the case of Alfred Langfehlt of Coney Island, who ran what he called a dice game. He wanted the police restrained from interfering witli his business. Decision was reserved.
