CONDENSED HISTORY OF THE FLIGHT STAKES. The Flight Slakes is a seven furlong sprint under special weights named in the conditions, with penalties and allowances. When first run in 1SS7 it fell to Captain Sain Browns fast colt, Stuyvesant, the first horse to achieve a mile record of 1:40 in a race in this country. Such wonderfully fast horses as Britannic, Kingston, Tenny, Dr. Hasbrouck, Clifford, Itequital, Bendoran, Hellobas, Voter, Hamburg Belie and Itoseben have since prevailed in it.
