MR. BELMONT RELEASES MOUNTAIN. Now York, September 1.!. August Belmont lias released jockey George Mountain from bis obligation to ride for his stable during the remainder of the season. Mountain, who lias been at Belmont Park since the wind-up of the Saratoga meeting, got a letter Wednesday from the chairman of the Jockey Club announcing that be was free. But now that his connection with the Belmont stable Is severed he will get to work and lick himself into condition to ride once more. John E. Madden has second call on bis services for the remainder of the year, and Maddcns stable shelters several good horses that are in first class condition just now. Mountain expects to keep busy riding for Madden and as a free lance. His contract with Mr. Belmont was canceled at bis own request. lie asked Jack Joyncr at Saratoga to let him go. Joyncr had no authority to cancel the contract, but he referred Mountains application to Mr. Belmont. Mountain was in bad form at Saratoga and lie laid off three weeks because be thought he was becoming track sore.
