COLONEL BOB HAS A GIRL OWNER. The Good Colt Picked Out by Virginia Hayes Races for Her. Lexington, Ky.. September 19. When Colonel Bob won the handicap for all ages this afternoon, he scored his tenth victory out of fifteen starts, being only once unplaced. That he is the best two-year-old in Kentucky is the opinion of many horsemen. Certainly lie is the best here. It is not generally known that every dollar that he has earned has been given by T. P. Hayes to his little daughter, Virginia, for It was she who caused her father to buy the son of Cesarion Fonsolette. -It was this way," said Mr. Hayes today. "I went out to McGrathiana one morning last year to buy some colts and fillies. I took Virginia .along with mc. We were driving with Colonel Young from the house to the big brick barn, in which some of the yearlings I wanted to sec r were quartered. When she saw a little black colt galloping along the fence which enclosed his paddock. Papa, she said, that is a pretty little colt, and see how fast he runs. I wish you would buy him. Without stopping to look Jilm over I asked Colonel Young his breeding and price. He told me that he was a Cesarion. out of Tonsolette, and 00 would get him. I took him at once and told my daughter that all he would earn would be hers."
