SHEEPSHEAD BAY IMPROVEMENTS. The Coney Island Jockey Club is spending a lot of money on its Slieepsliead Bay course. After two weeks work the now -chute is about laid out- and the reconstruction of the upper turn will begin shortly. The new chute is an extension of the backstretch to tlie right of the present track and when it is completed the starting places-of races at distances ranging from three-quarters to one mile and five furlongs will be situated iu it. The start of the next Suburban will be in this new chute. The improvements will surely be finished before the beginning of the season of 1903. The bad weather of the last fortnight has hampered superintendent Clark and his workers. When the improvements are completed Sheepshead Bay will have a dirt track one mile and three furlongs around, with a mile and a quarter turf course within it and a steeplechase course within the turf course. The enlargement of the Slieepsliead Bay course will be followed shortly by the abandonment of the old mile courses of the east which are no longer big enough for first-class racing.
