CAUSE OF NEW ORLEANS TROUBLE. New Orleans, La., December 9. The carnival of racing which has been in operation continuously since last spring at the half-mile track across from City Park track, lias aroused a sentiment which may do away with the entire business. There is no question but that the local people are In favor of racing at the big tracks, where the sport is conducted on a high basis. Winter racing does a lot for New Orleans and almost every class of iiier-: chant derives some sort of benefit from it. The half-mile merry-go-rounds depend entirely on the local element for support and naturally this means a constant drain throughout the yean There is a lot of talk of a racing commission which would regulate the sport and confine it to the winter months. Naturally this move will find the managers of the big tracks in hearty co-operation, who, as a matter of fact, have been introducing all sorts of reforms to cut away from the chances of cheating and the causes of scandal, and which have really accomplished much in this respect. j
