Tawasentha had scant chance with a bad rider, ran in nearest, but laggard, pursuit of the winner to the last turn, then went hopelessly wide and was whipped into a fast going second on the Inside. Duke of Orleans liked the stiff going and is becoming very good and steadily improved his position into a fast going third. La Rose ran prominently throughout and was short. Mill Song finished well. Benvolio, poorly ridden, came witli a too late stretch sprint. Funny Side is not ready, but showed speed for six furlongs. Tancred quit unexpectedly after being prominent for six furlongs. Muskoday broke slowly and dropped back quickly, but ran Into the lead in the next quarter and just lasted the journey, not being quite keyed up. Judge Nelson ran forwardly from the start, finished with a rush and was wearing the winner down fast. Massa, from a flying start, set the early pace, was crowded back at the half and lost much ground then came again like a shot under a weak ride. Captain Burnett was outpaced all the way, but ran a good race. Fred Bent, badly ridden, ran well up for six furlongs, then retired. Woolma, after showing superior early speed, dropped out quickly.
