HOWLERS AT NEW ORLEANS STAND AND HOOT THE STARTER Milord Takes the Measure of Lotus Eater and Prob ¬ ably Is a Good One Frizctte Runs a Fast J Race Carew Wins at Last New Orleans La April 10 A faulty start In the fourth race the afternoons feature which brought about the defeat of Lotus Eater the favor ¬ ite resulted in an idiotic demonstration such as is now and then seen on a race track and for a time much unseemly noise was made The field of six starters was dispatched in straggling order with Lotus Eater and Grimaldi the latter a sharply supported second choice practically left at the post Mil ford which had been away from the post in forward position raced Too Beach into sub ¬ jection quickly and when Lotus Eater challenged in the stretch he shook him oft and won like a rare good one A portion of the crowd surrounded the judges stand and gave vent to cat calls and hisses directed at the starter A number of policemen wcro required to disperse the turbulent persons and ivstore normal conditions conditionsAside Aside from the above incident todays sport was devoid of sharp interest and developed little to eu thuse over overHough Hough riding in the opening race on the part of G Swain was responsible for the easy victory of Autumn Maid but as no complaint of foul was made the judges allowed the result to stand as the horses finished Swains action in cutting across from the outside to the inside rail soon after the start caused the other starters to become crowded ind by the time they managed to extricate them ¬ selves from the tangle Autumn Maid was many lengths in the lead and the others strung out over a sixteenth of ground groundIn In the succeeding race Itaimondo was also bene ¬ fited by a jam which came soon after the start lint showing the most speed led the others to the finish Pat Sharp a newcomer here was well backed but could only gain third place placeBen Ben Double upset all calculations by winning the third race from Topsy Kolunson and Mr Pea body lKth favored in the betting bettingThe The sprint race went to Frizctte which proved much the best leading throughout and winning from Frontcnac in fast time timeHostile Hostile Hyphen under a good ride from Nicol outlasted Whisk Broom in a sharp last furlong drive and managed to win by a scant length lengthIn In the closing race the longoverdue Carcw had matters Ills own way and won in a canter from Cursus CursusFor For rough riding jockey llucstis was informed by the olliclals that lie would not be allowed to accept any more mounts mountsJockey Jockey Nicol was fined 25 by the starter for disobedience at the post postAmong Among the entries for the Fort Erie Derby re ¬ ceived by secretary Maginn today were Mcelick and Uncle UncleJockey Jockey C Kocrncr departed last night for Wash ¬ ington where he will accept mounts as soon as he is In condition to ride rideFully Fully a hundred race followers will depart for New York on the boat that leaves here to ¬ morrow morrowMaelstrom Maelstrom fell lame so badly In the closing race today that in all probability he will never be raced again
