ENDURANCE BY RIGHT IS DEAD DEADThe The death of Endurance by Right at H P Whit ¬ neys Brookdalc Farm Is announced Tills famous mare died while foaling a colt by Hamburg and was the dam of Stamina by Nasturtium and Right Guard and The Lame Duck by Hamburg While The Lame Duck has never started Right Guard 1 found among the Whitney entries to the Doncaster St Lcger of 100S and all of the big stakes for two yearolds of this year Stamina earned distinction as a racer last year earning 29 253 Including among her victories the second part of the Double Event at Sheepshead Bay the first half of the Pro ¬ duce Stakes at Brighton Beach and the Matron Stakes at Belmont Park She ran second to Colin in the Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park last Oc ¬ tober when the renowned son of Commando esta ¬ blished a new record for the stake of 123 for seven eighths of a mile Endurance by Right was a bay marc by Inspector B Early Morn and WHS foaled in ISO Her owner during most of the first and only year sho was seen on the turf was J W Schorr who sold her to the late W C Whitney for a reported price of 35000 As a twoyearold Endurance by Right showed racing qualities which stamped her a re ¬ markable filly Sho made eighteen starts winning sixteen of them and finishing third in two Tho only time that she did not win an important event in which she was entered was in the Flatbnsh at Conor Island when Nasturtium which by the way Is the sire of Stamina finished first and Goldsmith second in a grandly contested race It was early In December 1000 that Colonel William S Barnes proprietor of the Melbourne Stud bought Endurance by Right for 230 in the annual sale of Woodward Shanklln at Lexington Sho had been sent to the sale by Colonel Milton Young who had purchased he and her dam Early Morn from General Wu H Jackson Little was thought of Endurance by Right at that time but within less than a year she was rightfully termed the most famous racer of her age and sex In America Any weight and any distance seemed to suit her and her speed was of a high order whilo she was even tempered and easy to train trainEarly Early in the spring of 1K1 she was sent to Memphis with other horses which Colonel Barnesj had put in training and evidently her work did not impress her trainer for when thq shrewd eye of John W Schorr fell upon her anil he made art offer of 1200 for her racing qualities the offer was readily accepted How well the deal turned out for him Is best shown by the amount earned by the filly under the Schorr colors This amounted to 22 IO which with 4375 which sho won by capturing the Champagne Stakes for Mr Whitney made up the 27015 she earned during the year Among yearAmong the events in which Endurance by Right was the winner were tho Clipsctta Lassie Petite Lakeside Great Eastern Holly Brooklyn and the thirtyfifth Champagne In the Lakeside at Wash ¬ ington Park the track record of 100 for five fur ¬ longs which had been made In the previous race by AllanaJDale was broken by her when she made the same distance over the same track In 100 a fifth of a second better In his race AllanaDalo carried 111 pounds while Endurance by Right picked up 122 and with ease broke the record he had just made and that while the crowd had notyyet re covered from the f nrore caused by the previous performance performanceIf If the orphan foaled at Brookdale follows In the footsteps of Stamina he will only do what could be expected of a son of Hamburg and Endurance by Right Tho youngster has been adopted by Tanya to take the place of one of a pair of twins by Hamburg which she recently dropped aadoM of wnlca died atoctly after birth
