QUITE AN OFF DAY AT THE MEADOAVS Seattle Wash August G It was a verv ordinary vrard that was decided at The Meadows today but interesting and closely contested racing was the rule throughout the afternoon Jockey C Koerner who came to the coast from New York to ride for Ji C Hildreth made Ids local debut ou Adelbert Uelle favorite of the second race and made a poor start by allowing Confessor to slip through next to the rail and lnat out his mount in the closing utrldes In the succeeding race he made amends ny winning with Hiidreths Steel on which he made a powerful tinish His riding of Jack Witt rlio hot oddsoiL choice of the third race was not of a w rt calculated to win any great following for the boy here as he got the horse in trouble on the first turn and apparently delayed making a determ ¬ ined move uutil too late to be effective Thin permitted the neglected long shot Kerrnit to score The other races went to shortpriced horses includ ¬ ing two favorites Convent Bell came within a traction of equaling the track record for a mile anil 50 yards in winning her race and at that she was only cantering
