NOTES OF THE TURF. Up to October 13 in England King Edwards expensive stable had won eight races and 1,953 with five horses. According to reports from the coast T. n. Williams, president of the California Jockey Club, on his arrival at San Francisco the other day confirmed tho rumor regarding his connection with the racing enterprise for the City of Mexico. Jockey Buchanan, who has been riding in Franco for several seasons, had the mount on Jacks Oueen the other day at Dallas. Buchanan was one of the leading jockevs in this country a few years back and rode many good races over Chicago tracks. Grover Baker arrived at Santa Anita Park the other day with Ed Alveys string of horses, including Friend Harry and Pinkola. the recent acquisitions to the Alvey stable. The others weTe E. M. Fry. Dr. Mathews. McChord. Prince Ahmed, Colonel Bob. Hazelthorpe and Little Wicker. Dave Henry, who has just reached the coast with part of Barney Schrcibcrs stable, is very ontimiRtlc. concerning the resumption of racing in Missouri next summer. The proposed meeting at St. Louis this fall was abandoned because of the inability of the promoters to obtain a suitable track. Jockey Joe Piggott, -who left this country in 1901 to ride for Prince Poniatowski in Russia, has been a visitor at Latonia for the past week. Plggotts contract with the prince does not expire for two years, and when he returns to Russia expects to take two boys with 1dm, the younger Hildebrand and the brother of jockey Mounce. In Barney Schrcibers string now quartered at Oakland is a three-year-old named Francis . Joseph that has never faced the barrier, and is a full-brother to the good mare. Gehehnniss.
