HTLDRETHS SCHEME THAT FAILED. San Francisco. Cal., November 7. S. C. Hildreth has ambitious plans for his California campaign this season and will utilize ;the entire strength of his formidable stable in an effort to far exceed his showing of any previous winter in purse winnings. Last season he made no attempt to train and race Uncle, the best horse that he brought to California, but this winter every horse in his string will be called upon to help swell the Hildreth total in the winning owners list. In important races he will not depend upon a single candidate, but will have at least two and possibly more starters to insure victory. In the furtherance of this plan he started four horses in- the Opening Handicap yesterday. Montgomery, Fitz Herbert. Dandelion and Angelus. Hildreth lias so many good horses available that he can carry out such a policy.
