BREEDER AND OWNER NO MORE. All hut One of Edward Corrigans Thoroughbreds Pass to New Owners. Lexington, Ky., November 25. Edward Corrigans career as a breeder and very likely as an owner of thoroughbred running horses ended this afternoon when the last of his ninety-two head passed under the hammer of auctioneer William Eastern of the Fasig Tipton Co. at the veteran turfmans farm. The total for ninety-two head was 3,995. an average of S2C0.S0. The aggregate was about ,0u0 less than what Mr. Corrigan expected, but the con sensus of opinion among horsemen who attended is that it was an excellent sale. Mr. Corrigan Is uncommonly fond ,o horses and has such .sentimental interest in many of those that were gold today that he possibly valued them too highly. In fact, it was much after the manner of a. man parting with his children. He truly hated to see them go. McGee was numlcr one in the I catalogue ami when he was knocked down to Charles W. Moore of .Mere Hill Stud. Mr. Corrigan had possibly as intense a feeling of depression as has ever come to him. He was on the verge of stopping the sale. but. as he said after it was all over, the reflection that he Iiad always been a game man and that it would not lie lifting for him to weaken at this late day in life, stayed his voice and hand and the sale progressed with the "Master of Hawthorne" standing silently in the background. Marta Santa, sire of Richard Reed. Elizabeth Hanvood and Anne McGee. was next led in. He was the star of the sale and there were several eager for him. Colonel Clay started the bidding at ,000. Charles II. Hughes, trainer for Henry M. Zieglcr. of Cincinnati, raised it to ,000. Several other bids were ipilckly made up to ,000. when Irving II. Wheatcroft cut in and lie and Hughes had it. up to S3.S00 when Colonel Milton Young raised Hughes 00. Hughes said ,000 and the son of Marlley was knocked down to him. Mr. Hughes said that lie bad not purchased the stallion for Mr. Ziegler, but that he had Irmmi commissioned by another person. For the present, he said, lie would prefer not to disclose the identity of the purchaser. A few weeks ago Harney Schreiber offered Mr. Corrigan ,000 for McGee and he refused it. It was Mr. Corrigans expectation that Marta Santa would bring about ,500. II. Eugene- Leigh of Paris, France, was in point of numbers the heaviest buyer. He got live mares ami five horses in training, and then gave Johnny Ferriss a profit of 00 for McAllister, which had been knocked down ifor 00. making eleven to go across the pond. They will leave here about Mon day. Ferriss got five besides McAllister. He will leave the weanlings at one of the farms in tills vicinity. Sanfonl Lyne got seven weanlings and Will Young five. Only one horse was passed out. fhe two-year-old bay colt. iMarine, by Marta Santa Lute, half-sister to Golden Rule. Mr. Corrigan bad refused ait offer of ,000 from Irving H. Whe.it-croft for this colt after he had worked so fast at Latonia, and today made up bis mind to hold him at It hat figure and. If not sold, lo turn him over to some good man next spring to Ik? raced on shares. The forty mares averaged 40.25. thirty-four weanlings 31.30 and sixteen horses in training 74.
