OAKLAND RAGING HIGH CLASS. San Francisco. Cal.. December 17. The high standard set for the conduct of the winter race meeting now in progress at Oakland is being rigidly adhered to by the New California Jockey Club management and the results of the first five weeks of the season speak for themselves. The sport has been of a type that will compare most favorably witli that of for mer seasons. There has been an entire absence of .scandal and the few form reversals that have been "in evidence are no more than must be expected in the natural course of racing under constantly changing track conditions. In consequence of the winning of forty-six per cent. Of the races so far run by favorites the public is considerably ahead from the speculative standpoint and the hookies are all heavy losers to date. Numerous bankrolls have already been shot to pieces, but others have been brought into play, and at the present writing there are more layers in line than at airy previous time during the season and quite as many as at the corresponding time last winter.
