JOHN HUGGINS TO TRAIN FOR WHITNEY Xew York January 31 John Htiggins it has been reported has been engaged to train the American horses of Harry Payna Whitney during the coming season In 1908 Mr AVhitney shipped most of his stable to England where under the care of A J Joyner they were more successful last year than any of the other American horses sent abroad At ths close of the English season while Mr Whitney did not reduce his English string to any material extent some of the horses were shipped back and with his homebred twoyearolds bis stake nominations for the year have been important Among the horses brought back from England are Diiiua Ken Sea Cliff and Sixty The horses are at Brookdale Farm in Xew Jersey in the care of Edward Taylor anl within a few days they will be turned over to Mr Iluggins There are about twentyfive in the string that will bear the Whitney colors on this side of the Atlantic and his interest in the sport will be greater than it was last season Iluggins is at pres ¬ ent hunting in Texas where he has several inter ¬ ests but he will come east shortly to assume his new duties While abroad Muggins trained for this late Pierre Lorillnrd who won a Derby with Iro quois Lord Beresford and William C Whitney for whom In trained Volodyovski when he won the Derby His latest connection with the turf was when be handled the horses of Herman B Druyca but he took no active part In turf affairs last season
