GREAT HEAVENS TAKES ANOTHER STAKE Son of Star Shoot Wins Washington Handicap for P T Chinn at Jacksonville Track Jacksonville Fla February 22 P T Chinus fouryearold Great Heavens added to the list of his stake victories at Moncreif Park by winning the Washington Handicap the feature race of the card offered at the Jacksonville course this afternoon He met and defeated good opposition but tlie superb ride that jockey Powers gave him was resjKtnsilile to a great extent for the horses victory A large holiday crowd witnessed tlie sport and as four of tin six races were won by the favorites It was a well pleased crowd There was only one close finish and it came with the running of the fifth race which went to tlie St James Stables Starover which beat Lady McXally by a neck Jockey Powers rode two winners and Nieol also put two winning mounts across Ilichard Bauer won his first race at the meeting when Critic cantered home an easy winner in the closing dash dashIt It lias been definitely decided by the management to bring the meeting at Monerelf Park to an end on April 10 Tlie original date for closing was April but the club decided to give some extra days racing for charity This will give horsemen four days to ship to Baltimore for the opening of the Pimlico meeting One of the charity days will be for the benefit of the charity ward in St Lukes Hospital another day will 4 e in aid of the building fund for a new hospital that will be erected in Jacksonville aud another day will be devoted to some other char ¬ ity not as yet decided upon Besides this the asso ¬ ciation is behind the Moncreif Minstrels the talent for whose performance will be furnished by visiting racegoers This amateur company will give two performances one for the Itenelit of the Home for the Aged and another for the Confederate Veterans Home Tlie first performance will be given on March G at the Duval Theater All of this must certainly IMJ appreciated l y the local people The boxes and choice seats for both i orformances will be auctioned off at the race track by Silver Bill Riicy which of course means that handsome re ¬ sults should be realized realizedThere There was a lapse in the selling race war none of the winners being boosted boostedFred Fred Cook arrived from Tampa and operated from the ground He probably will cut iu with a book at the next drawing drawingEd Ed Tipton the wellknown auctioneer was a visitor at Moncreif Park this afternoon lie has Ixen spending a coupln of weeks Jn the southern part of Florida and is on his way north northSeveral Several horsemen who liavc been racing at Juarez have wired the management that they will ship to i Moncreif Park next week weekJockey Jockey Gauz who bruised his leg while riding in a race a week or so ago was in the saddle again today He had the mounts on Green Seal and Starover StaroverJockey Jockey C Grand left last night for New York to join the stable of George Odoin to whom he is under contract contractWord Word was received hero1 this afternoon that Thomas Wright will come from Baltimore to ride iu tue race for gentlemen riders on Thursday
