LYMAN DAVIS A BUSY OFFICIAL Louisville Ky March 22 Lyman H Davis sec ¬ retary of the New Louisville Jockey Club and of the Empire City Racing Association has returned here from New York where he spent several days arranging for improvements at the Kmpire City course The Empire City meeting will open July 14 and will last twelve days Secretary Davis is a busy man In addition to looking after the eastern race course with which he is connected he is work ¬ ing all day and into the night preparing for the twentythree days meeting which will begin at Churchill Downs May 10 In referring to the Em ¬ pire City races Secretary Davis says that the Empire City Handicap closed with sixtyfour entries eleven more than any other eastern track received for its star event Belmont Park is closest with fiftythree For the fourteen stakes to be decided at Empire City there are 111 entries representing the pick of the greatest handicap horses In America This season August Belmont has made forty entries at Empire City and Sam Hildreth who did not race at that course in 100 is represented In splendid fashion Secretary Davis in referring to the im ¬ provements to be made at the Empire City course says that an entrance will bo built from Jerome avenue to the grandstand a distance of r 00 feet It will be covered and there will be an asphalt walk The field stand will be dismantled The paddock will be moved to the recently acquired strin of land in Jerome avenue A new jockey rixmi with a hospital attachment and a new general office will he built adjoining the clubhouse A new Inner nin nmg rail to encircle the track will also be built
