Wal-hanms controlling interest in the Saratoga track was the foundation of a number of new stakes of which the Seneca was one. Its short distance and the fact tiiat owners could assign their own weights because of its being a selling race has served to maintain its popularity and it has always been contested bv the l»-st order of Belling platers. Its first winner. The Musketeer, was a very fast horse and in his time the holder of several records over sprinting distances. The record of the event is: Year. First. Jockeys. Wt. Second. Wt. Third.
