few races of genuine importance remain to be disposed of principal in value and interest being the Liver ¬ pool Autumn Cup Derby Cup and Manchester No ¬ vember Handicap the latter being the last big flat race of the year Afterwards the jumpers will hold sway until the flat races come into their own again at Lincoln next March Most of the big stables have been retired to winter quarters with here and there a horse or two kept in training for such races as those named Of the winners of the clas ¬ sics Swynford may be seen In action at Liverpool where he is In the Liverpool St Leger and an easy quartered In Dublin with his regi ¬ ment and later when he was associated with the Remount Department he enjoyed great1 popularity A keen man to hounds he was the conspicuous figure with the Mcath and Ward for several seasons when though he rode a big weight he could hold his own with the best in a long gallop and he was very proud the day he won the Regimental Welter at Old Falryhonso Some fifteen years ago Prince Francis patronized thV principal Irish racemeeiings andIn 1815 he had the mortifying experience of laying and losing the sensational wager of 30000 to 95000 on Bcllevin for the Stewards Plate at the Curragh The race referred to looked absolutely at the mercy of that good horse but to the consternation of not a few Winkfields Pride afterwards destined to win renown ruthlessly floored the odds laid on T Li Plunketts hitherto unbeaten colt This net was made with the late Patsy Cadogan who not caring to stand the full amount divided it up with Klchard Kavanaugh and John James all of whom like the Prince are now alas no more The affair caused a big stir at the time as well It might having regard to the magnitude of the transaction transactionGraf Graf G Lehndorff the father
