GILPY A GOOD THING AT JUAREZ El Paso Tex November 30 Despite an ordinary card there was a fair attendance at Tcrrazas Park today Ocean Queen running in front throughout just lasted to win the feature race from The Wolf which was closing fast and gives promise of being a useful racer here Royal Captive ran one of her bad races and was a distant third thirdW W I Yankes tiilpy was the good thing of the day in the fifth race Heavily backed and favored by a good start he cantered all the way wayEd Ed Thornton arrived from Oakland last night aud is awaiting the arrival of Jack Atkiu who will book here hereC C B Clow a wealthy Salt Lake turfman who lias a string of sis horses here arrived this morning and will stay the season out outFrank Frank Shannon cut in today and is a decided ac ¬ quisition to the ring ringJockey Jockey Shilling departed for Oakland today He is to ride there for A B Spreckels but will return to Juarez later to ride the twoyearolds sent here by his employer employerBarney Barney Schreiber stopped over at Woodlands Farm in Missouri eu route here but is expected shortly He thought he had made arrangements for H R Brandt to handle Jack Atkin here but the latter finally decided not to take the great horse for the reason that in nearly every stake here for older horses h has his own horse Harrigan entered against Jack Atkiu He told Mr Schreibers agent W A Kirwan that in the event he found Harrigan and his other horses were not up to racing in stakes he would take Jack Atkin into bis string later on in the meeting As a result Mr Kirwan has turned the great horse over to trainer W Whalen who has a division of the Schreiber stable here hereJames James Butler of New York and Ma son Reid But ¬ ler are here for a few weeks stay Next month they will return cast but will be back for another long stay before winter racing ends at Juarez Mr Butler has quite a string of horses in training here including some yearlings of a most promising type typeClem Clem Creveling is among the regulars here hereJ J It Wainwright did not bring Dr Waldo Briggs here having decided to let the horse rum out all winter in Kentucky The mare Posing which he left In Texas last winter is in foal to Blue Devil a son of St Andrew
