MARLBORO MANAGEMENT IS WARNED New York March II It is possible that trouble may follow the decision of the Southern Maryland Fair Association to conduct steeplechase racing il the Marlboro track without lirst obtaining permis ¬ sion from the National Steeplechase and Hunt Asso ¬ ciation This association is the central governing lKily of all crosscountry races in a district that in ¬ cludes the MarllHiro course No application has been made for a sanction of such racing ami the stewards have adopted a resolution that threatens to outlaw the races through the field that may held at thd Maryland track during the last six days of the meeting The resolution in question reads readsResolved Resolved That the secretary be and he is here ¬ by instructed to send a letter to the Southern Mary ¬ land Fair Association in the following form to wit That the schedule of their events as a fair asso ¬ ciation including racing calls for the offering f fair premiums for only the lirst four days out of the ten davs advertised during which racing Is to be held heldI I am further instructed to inform you that any steeplechases conducted during the last six days f the proposal meeting will be in violation of the Rules of Racing of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association Part 2 Sec N B and these six days will necessarily be treated as part of an unrecognized meeting Baltimore Aid March 31 When seen with refer ence to the resolution passed l y the Natlo il Steeplechase and Hunt Association Dr R S Hill president of the Southern Maryland Fair Association said We will race under the rule governing fair sanctions under the provisions of which the Jockey Club allows us ten days We intend to live up c every rule of the National Hunt and Steeplechase Association and the Jockey Club under whose rules we race Our program liooks for the races were issued only for the first four day1 of the meeting in order that tin conditions for succeeding days might be arranged to suit burses in attendance at our fair The book for the ensuing six days will be issued shortly It will he found that the steeplechase races conform strictly to the laws governing tie same The steeplechase course at Marlboro is one of the safest and liest in America Twen ivc jumping races have been decided over this course with but two horses falling
