MARLBORO MEETING BEGINS AUSPICIOUSLY Biggest Crowd Ever Seen at That Half mile Course Turns Out for Opening Marlboro Md April 1 The spring season of racing in the State of Maryland began this after ¬ noon when the Southern Maryland Fair and Racing Association began its ten days meeting at tho Marl IKIIO track That the racing folks of Washington and Baltimore were eager to see the thoroughbreds in action was shown by the large crowd that made the journey to the track Although the weather was threatening at the time tluj trip to the course was to be made the attendance7 attendance7was was the largest in the history of racing at the course courseTin Tin District Handicap for threeyearolds and mi ward at about six and onehalf furlongs was tin star number on the program It attracted a field of nine and N B Davis furnished the winner in Sylvestris The third race brought out the prettiest finish of the afternoon for when thw winner reached the judges a blanket would have covered the lirst six Wildweod a 15 to 1 chance won by a head with Kanchette Clothes Brush and Earl of Richmond as apartJockey named heads apart Jockey Bauer who had the mount on Outtyhunk the winner of the closing event was warned to bo inoro careful in future owing to some rough work at the start when he crossed over and interfered with Ella Grane and Hcivotic 1 Jockey Tommy MeTaggart was anitmg those who witnessed the sport also Tommy Wright the well known gentleman rider
