Louisville Ky April 2 Hawthorn C F Buseiio meyers Kentucky Derby candidate and favorite for that great race to be run on May 10 worked a mile and an eighth in lr 7 at Churchill Downs today lie went the lirst eighth in 12 the quarter in 2 three eighths in the half in 4S liveeight lis in 10 threequarters in 110 seveneighths in and the mile in 14 During the lirst part of tho trial lie was running freely Thvn his rider took him back a bit at the end of live furlongs but tested him out again in the last eighth which he ran like a good stayer in 12 After he had boon thor ¬ oughly cooled out and returned in his stall wo hours after his trial lie appeared ts if he had lij been on the track 10 U Bnulloys Derby candidate Brooklield worked a good six furlongs going the route i 115 after running arrived at the Downs today from Charleston Trainer W II Bilker brought Hoyal Tea White Wool Busy Idleweiss Samuel H Meyer Husky Lad and Coy Jockey It Goose came along with trainer Baker He said it is understood there on account of the flood conditions that the special horse trains for Kentucky might not be able to depart from Charleston before tomorrow Adair Bakers horses were shipped here by express and there was little lost time on account of the high water waterE E It Bradley came here direct from Florida and will spend his time from now until the close of the spring and summer campaign at the Kentucky tracks and his Idle Hour Farm at Lexington lie is greatly pleased with the condition of his horses here under the care of that skilful trainer Cliff Hainmoa and also was clad to find that his rider Carl filing has been with the stable for some time and Is now in superb riding condition Mr Bradley npout a healthful winter in Florida but smilingly remarked that he had added nothing to his wealth in tlm land of the everglades this year yearDr Dr Gann is at the National Stock Farm doing some dentistry work on the horses that Lon Jonts has in training there which ho will not bring into the local tracks until May Mr Jones is reported to have several promising youngsters hi training ai Ills farm this season seasonDr Dr C Cann gave Star Charter one of the noted members of T W Schorrs stable a touch with the firing iron at Douglas Park a day or two ago Tim son of Star Shoot has a slightly weak tendon and whlh Dr Cann really thinks there is no danger of a breakdown Ixith he and trainer Schorr thought It best to use the firing iron as a prevontative at moo The treatment probably will not prevent Star Charter from iwing trained for his engagement in the 1000 Kentucky Handicap as the horse will daysTrainer H out of active training for only a few days Trainer T S Ward thinks Solar Star is entirely over the effects of his winter sickness and he has high hopes of Ifeing aide to got him ready for the Kentucky Derby though the big race is only five weeks away This son of Star Shoot has quite a following for the big race as last fall at Latonia lie won at a mile and against older Horses HorsesA A G Duulap is coming to Kentucky this spring to secure some new material for his racing stable He has decided to retire Ills noted mare Ocean QIIOPII and will send her to Santa Anita ranch in California and mate her with one of the sires owned by the K J Baldwin estate This daughter of Cunard has a good racing record having won thirtytwo races and close to 14000 She Is now seven years old Mr Drnlap wants to pick up some good young stock during Ills coming visit to Ken ¬ tucky Dunlap is the turfman who developed lotkey George Archibald who was in his employ for five years Archilwild is now riding in Germany Al GermanyAl Luziider is still keening J H Waiuwrights High Star In the stable This colt at one time prom ¬ ised to develop into a crack Luzador however has been unable to make much headway in improving High Stars logs this spring so he has concluded to have the colt gelded and fired and turned out wolwbly until fall or perhaps until next season Luzador has done nothing at all aside from walking exercise with the groat handicap horse High Private jis yet this spring He will begin working him in a few days with a view to running him In the 51OOOO Kentucky Handicap at Douglas Park this spring High Private wintered finely
