MAHERS EXCELLENT RIDING THIS YEAR. At the Birmingham meeting September 29, I. Malier guided three horses to victory, a clrcumstanco , that led Ixmdon Sporting Life to say: "Apart from 1 his successful mount on Uncle Pat yesterday, Maher had two other winning rides ou Railway and Inconstant George, and as the famous jockey is now within easy hail of yet another century, lie should I hold his own to the end of the season, and head . the list once more. Probably Maher has never ridden in more brilliant form than has been the case this season, aud as he appears to bo less troubled in the matter of controlling his weight than during one or two recent years, lie should continue to occupy his accustomed prominent position 1 for some seasons to come. All his mounts yesterday wero well-backed animals, but perhaps his 5 best effort was on the narrowly-beaten loser, Non i Sequitur, which succumbed by the shortest of heads 3 to the favorite, Streep, in the Broinford Plate. . Streep was tho mount of Dannys closest rival, , Frank Wootton, but there was an exchange of positions - when Inconstant George beat old Battle-axe j for the Guernsey Handicap. The second, it will be b remembered, was for a long time the property of C Fred Parker, as also was Kodak, which won the j principal race yesterday. Both wero bought out of f selling events by Richard Wootton, who thus came e very near to bringing off a profitable double event t with the pair." :
