HUMILIATION was on the Inside when entering the homestretch and appeared to lie only canter-lag tiieu, but was tiring at the end. FATHOM, was coming fast from the rear ou the outside and gaining. .MARTIAN got up in the final stride for third place. FLITAWAY quit. The race was run in a heavy fog and colors could not be distinguished except in the homestretch. Scratched 12438 Maxims Choice. 105. ALTAMAIIA, off slowly, worked his way up steadily on the outside and, having closed a big gap, drew away into an easy lead In the last eighth. MONCREIF ran forwardly and, after tiring, came again and outgamed WATER WELLES for second place. The latter quit after making a threatenihg challenge 011 the- stretch turn. HONEY BEE finished fast and close up. LADY LIGHTNING set a fast pace to the stretch and tired. PHYLLIS ANTOINETTE closed a big gap. DEDUCTION quit. STRENUOUS moved up rapidly while rounding the far turn and, wearing LACE down in the stretch drive, outstayed her in a close finish. LACE was much used in making a fast early pace and was tiring at the end. ARRAN ran well, but was driving hard all of the last sixteenth to outstay SPRING MAID. The latter closed a big gap and finished fast. GERRARD, AFTERGLOW and ELLA GRANE all showed speed, hut quit in the stretch. THE WELKIN drew into a long lead in the second turn of the field and won in a canter, but pulled up lame. CACTUS BUD easily disposed of L. NAVARRE for second place in the last quarter. The latter dropped far back in the first mile and finished well. TURBINE was a forward contender, but tired badly in the last quarter. M. CAMBON was lame at the finish. BUSKIN, also suddenly regaining, his siKjed. finished fast and gamely and was wearing the winner down at the finish. BARNEGAT closed a gap and finished with a rush. TALECARRIER ran in closest pursuit to the stretch and was eased up at the end. STAR GAZE was a forward and game contender throughout. HATTERAS finished well. The latter showed a fine turn of early speed and set the pace to the last sixteenth before succumbing. BALFRON began slowly and, closing a great gap, finished fast. CAPT.
