NOTES OF THE TURF. S. .T. Kelley is planning to retire from racing and k engage in breeding in a .small wav in the viciuitv or 1:1 Paso. Jockey Charles Kerb has returned to Europe from New York and will ride during the coining season for Herr V. von Mautner-Markhof in Germany. It develops that the losing of a plate and the spreading of a foot were responsible for Weyanokcs poor showing the last time he raced at Juarez. Trainer J. Johnston was recently cautioned by the stewards at Juarez on account of the inconsistent racing of Captain Durns. This was after the colt had won following a race in which he had made a Hor showing in contrast to previous good performances. Johnston claimed that a collision with another horse in the race in question was responsible for the reversal. A movement is on foot for the introduction of a bill at the next session of the California Legislature for the rehabilitation of racing in California on sound lines. The hill, as it Is being framed, calls for a racing commission to control the sport, with meetings limited so as not to exceed twelve days in any one county. Parl-mutuels will be the form of wagering and it is planned that the state shall receive a percentage of the receipts. 1 , l ; 5 i ; - t
