Captain Capes broodmare, Daisy, which he purchased recently has foaled a lilly by Vitez, and the youngster is therefore a sister to Christmas Daisy. This is the first filly Daisy lias produced. Baron Maurice de Rothschild lias sustained a serious loss in Hie deatli of his broodmare Gemma, the dam .of Sardauapale, which died at the Haras, de Champagne a few days after giving birth to a filly foal by Ossian, which for the present is being raised by haiid. Gemma, a daughter of Florizel II. . was purchased in England by Baron do Rothschild for 0,000 and was imported into France in 100S. At tlie Downpatrick meeting iu Ireland, March 12, F. .Morgan rode the winners of all tlie five races. On Wednesday he only hail two mounts, aiid rode one winner, so that his complete record for the meeting reads seven mounts, six winners. .Morgan is one of eight brothers who have all gained note as jockeys. He was ltorn iu 1JSS7, and was apprenticed, when only twelve years of age, to J. T. Widger at Watcrford. Morgan is as well known in England as iu Ireland. He won the Irish Derby oil Royal Arch; and rides in the American style.
