DOUBT OVER ALEC CARTERS FATE. A Paris cable of late date says: "It has been reported here that jockey Alec Carter was not killed in action as has been -widely published, but that he is a prisoner oT war in the military camp of Ham-melburg, Bavaria. Carter went out with the French forces early in the war and his mount was Lord Loris, one of the most notable steeplechase horses in France. Report had it that after many acts of conspicuous bravery both he and his mount were killed. No contradiction has been made of this report until recently when a Paris publication announced that he was a prisoner of war. This report has been verified and now it is considered wsdl niuh certain that though he was desperately wounded in battle he was not killed."
