EXCELLENT TORONTO RACING PROSPECTS. Toronto, Ont., May 12. — The program book for the approaching meeting of the Ontario Jockey Club, with which the Canadian racing season of 1916 will be inaugurated at Woodbine Perk, May 20. has been issued by Secretary W. P. Fraser. and shows the same liberality towards horsemen that has always marked the offerings of this enterprising leader among Canadian racing organizations. The minimum purse is 00. and there are many of 00 and 00 value. These valuable overnight races, iu addition to the tempting and extensive list of rich stake races that always have a place in the Woodbine programs, will undoubtedly attract high-class horses from the Inited States to take part in the racing, in addition to the pick of the Canadian stables. Secretary Fraser has scheduled the dates for the decision of stakes as follows: May 20 — Kings Plate, Minto Stakes and Woodbine Steeplechase. May 22 — Juvenile Stakes, Woodstock Plate and Queens Hotel Cup. May 23 — Breeders Stakes. May 24 — Toronto Cup and Coronation Stakes. May 25 — Maple Leaf Stakes and Coiinauglit Cup. May 26 — Prince of Wales Handicap and Street Railway Steeplechase. May 27 — King Edward Hotel Gobi Cup, Victoria Stakes and William Hendrie Memorial Handicap. A steeplechase is scheduled for every day of the meeting. Racing of this type is extremely popular with Woodbine patrons. Following out the special rule of the Canadian Racing Associations to that effect. Secretary Fraser has provided one selling race for each day, iu which there shall be no apprentice allowance. The nominations tor the Woodbine stakes which closed last week give evidence of a busy racing season in Canada, and all of the events have drawn more entries than last year. The entry of thirty-six Canadian -bred youngsters in the Coronation Stakes tells of the increase of the breeding interest in this country.
