HENDRIE HORSES IN WORK-OUT. Russell Square Is a Greatly Improved Horse in Appearance — Thoughtful Doing Well. Toronto. Int.. May 3. — The horses comprising the stable of Sir John Hendrie, whie-h arrived at the Woodbine course Monday, wore all given a slow-gallop yesterday anil arc- looking exceedingly well. Russell Square is a greatly improved horse in appearance over last year. In eight races last year be was never aaplaced, although he wwa only aace. The good colt Thoughtful, which was c it t down at Fort Frie last summer after showing excellent form, is doing well. Trainer Whyte is going along slowly ami carefully with him, however, and litis hardly as well advanced as some of the others. Baayaa was Jast taken up a short time ago ami. of course, will not be ready to race for aaase time to come. Sle- was on the ailing list. COWghing for a consiilerable time last year ami was only twice-seen under colors. She is still a maiden, as is Lows Land, the Kings Plate nominee. The- latter was Bam on the ailing list all last year and has tailed to train satisfactorily this spring. Be began going si re and was temporarily let up on. The five two-year-olds in the stable are all of good size, but as yet are unknown quantities. There was not it great deal done with them last fall after they WWM broken. The most impressive work of the day was that of the Irish pair. Bachelors Pliss and Iron Cross, the imported three-year olds, moving along stoutly in the sticky going. The- former reeled oat a half mil" in BS%, while the hitter turned in five-eighths in 1:05 Charles Crews Plater, Oriana, will hardly do if her performance in Company with Pepper Sauce is :my criterion. She was beaten off in three- quarters in the slow time of 1:24%. All five of the Peardmore candidates were given an airing. Ring Dove and Smarty Cap galloping a mile in 1:51. while Ladder of Light. Altar Fire and Fair Fox made the circuit in two minutes flat. Nixons Plata hopes. Twin Stream and McCoburn. stepped oil a half mile in 57. The other work-outs are; Mau-alus. half mile in 57; Tartarean. Garish Sun an 1 Pair Montague, five-eighths in 1:11: Red Post and Cart Volant, three -quarters in 1:L5; Hubbub, three-quarters in 1:25: Miss Oayle. five-eighths in 1:07; Marcovil. half mile in 5S; Ravenscourf. three-quarters in 1:25; hnights Differ, half mile in 57--,; Dandy Fay. half mile in 51%; Keldie D., five-eighths in 1:12.
