NO PHICAGO RACING THIS YEAR. The effort to finance and carry on a meeting at Hawthorne through the month of August, has been abandoned. It is well. Chicago is a big city. It responds to big tilings in a big way. To succeed here, a race meeting would have to he on a scale commensurate with the dignity and importance of tliis great center of population.- It will come some day, but not now.
