MAISONNEUVE MEETING BEGINS TUESDAY. Bowio System of Mutuel Betting to Be Employed Dr. A. S. Ives Appointed Presiding Judge. Montreal. Quo., July 20. Dr. A. Scott Ives has accepted the appointment of presiding judge for the midsummer meeting of the National Jockey Club at the Maisonneuve race course from July 24 to 31. The appointment of Dr. Ives has met with the approval of both the horsemen and the public. He is a competent official and knows every angle of the sport. Several years ago Dr. Ives acted in the stand regularly at the meeting of the Montreal Driving Club, and he has always been actively connected with that association. This year he is acting in the capacity of general manager of the meeting at Delorimier Park. The Bowie system of pari-mutuel betting will again be in use at the Maisonneuve meeting. The book of conditions was distributed yesterday among the horsemen by Manager William Murray and, from all indications, met with their approval. It is planned to run at least one race each day at a mile or over, while the remainder will be over the shorter distances. Tin; majority of the horsemen now racing at Delorimier Park have stated their intentions to ship their charges to the Maisonneuve track for the opening on Tuesday, while several carloads of horses are expected to arrive this week from Toronto, so that there should he no shortage of thoroughbreds to fill the various races on the cards at Maisonneuve.
