DATES OF THE NEW DERBY AND OAKS. Although I do not suppose there was even any question of abandoning for this year the sires of races at present known as tlie New Derby and tlie New Oaks, once permission had been received to resume, everyone, I am sure, will be glad to learn that the dates are already fixed. The two principal classic races are to be decided on July 31 and August 2 respectively at the First fj Extra Meeting and at the same gathering are to be run the Cambridgeshire Hunt Plate, and New Coventry Stakes, substitutes respectively for the Royal Hunt Cup and Coventry Stakes at Ascot. One regrets to notice that tlie Newmarket Gold Cup. after having been advertised for one of the lost meetings, has now been dropped, but this is perhaps, after all, wise, as there cannot be mimy "Cup" horses in training just now. and Hurry On, it is to be feared, may never be able to race again. However, there is a long distance event In the shape of the lladdenham Handicap of 500 sovereigns, which will have to serve in the place .of the Gold Cup. "Augur" in London Sporting Life.
