INSURE HIGHEST QUALITY OF SPORT.. Fixtures for Final Ten Days of Saratoga Meeting Attractive in All .Respects. Saratoga, N. Y., August 20. The fixtures for the final ten days of tle meeting of the Saratoga Racing Association are so attractive in all respects as .to insure the devotees of thoroughbred .racing the ihighest quality of sport. It would indeed be a fastidious patron of the sport who could find fault with the variegated and alluring program for thenext ten days. The quality of the entertainment is attested-by the fact that there .has been a dally increase in the attendance as against the figures of previous years. The card for next Saturday, August 25, is particularly attractive. It includes the Grand Union Hotel Stakes at three-quarters, the Merchants aiid Citizens Handicap at one mile and three-sixteenths .and .the Saratoga Steeplechase Handicap at about twd miles.-and a lialf; These Svill bring out the cracks of .the two-year-olds, the handicap and cross-country.- divisions respectively. In the Merchants and Citizens Old Rosebud will get his final preparation for the Saratoga Cup, to be run on the final day of the meeting, anil no matter what penalty Mr. Vosburgh may allot the wonderful gelding, he will probably go to the post, as trainer Weir says one race is worth, halt . a dozen, works in preparing a horse for a: supreme, effort. Weir knows lliat the race of his life awaits Old Rosebud iii the Cup, which is a real test of a horses irierif, being over the mile and three-quarters route. Omar Khayyam is the horse he fears most, and: at weight-for-age, both these superb thoroughbreds will have a host of supporters. For the Merchants and Citizens, which is worth-,000, Old Rosebud, Stromboli. Spur, Capra, The Finn, Embroidery, Clematis II., Colonel Vennie, Ed Crump; Dodge Omar "Khayyam, Siinbonnet, Hen-drie, Ronmer Ticket, Cudgel, Hodge, Borrow, Regret. Rickety and Corn Tassel are among the eligibles. Dodge, "which- -hhs been out of training for some months with a bad quarter crack, may make his first nppearahce-thls year in this nice. Papp will indeed be king of the two-year-old; division if he can pack his weight and win the Grand; Union Hotel Stiikes. He is at the top of his form and trainer Hirsch is another horseman who believes; in running his charges. when they are doing well. Papp is a singularly lusty colt as big as most three-year-olds-r-and he has speed and courage aplenty at his command. His record in winning the United States Hotel, Sanford Memorial and Flash Stakes at this meeting stamps him as a juvenile of real merit. , Most .Determined Opposition for Papp. The? most determined, opposition which Mr. Lofts good colt will encounter will come from Sun Briar, Kashmir, Nutcracker, l-Tspbba, Atalanta, Bosie OGrady, Free Cutter, Tr.icksend, Ultima Thnle and .Debadou. Sun Briar will take considerable beating if the course is. not hard, andhe has a phenomenal turn of speed, and Kashmir, winch will have the benefit .of an allowance, will carry the hopes of .many of the most discriniiiiating members of the talent. This colt was sold as a cast off at the Wickliffe Stables kale at Empire City, when he was purchased by William Clancy for 00. Clancy, who trained the Wickliffe horses ; in 1916, had broken the Colt, which is a brother to Outram, which was sent to England and w6n the Lincolnshire Handicap in the Keene colors. The fascination qf the turf is illustrated,, by the fact that three prominent turfmen are negotiating for the purchase of the son of Delhi Runaway Girl, which -is held at 5,000, .Not a bad investment for Clancy, who is a trainer of the old school. Two miles and a half is. supposed to be farther than Weldshiii cares to go, ..but Mr., Weld has In St. .Charlcote a Uoughty candidate for the Saratoga Steeplechase. SUn King, Loiivols, Martian, Cur-raghaleen. Bet, Bonnie Laddie, Tetan, Pebeto and Robert Oliver are a few of the eligibles. For Wednesday the Grab Bag for two-year-olds .at three-quiirters will give the program a sport--ing flavor. This race will have a big field of higlf-elass two-year-olds. A selling stakes-the Mohawk? for three-year-olds, of a guaranteed yalue of ;000 will be Thursdays piece de resistance. It is a dash- at u mile, and the starters will come from the following: Woodtrap, Ballad, Brooklyn, Pulaski, Courtship,- Phocion, Battle Abbey." Riverdale, Gunrock. Kalitan, Butterscotch II., Starfinch, Master McGratli, Killdee and Straight Forward. . ,
