ANTELOPES RUN SIXTY MILES AN HOUR In answering a question regarding the speed of antelope Roy C Andrews who is doing field work in China for the American Museum of Natural His ¬ tory says that he has no hesitancy in placing the antelopes speed at sixty miles an hour hourAt At one time he says our car was running forty miles by the speedometer and a herd of an ¬ telope which had started when nearly opposite to us cud about three hundred yards away ran parallel with us for some distance and then gradually drew ahead and crossed in front they kept about the same distance away all the time timeIn In other words while we were running forty miles in a straight line they were going ill a semi ¬ circle about us and still keeping almost the same distance uway perhaps they lost fifty yards but not more moreWhen When we bogan to shoot the animals increased their speed considerably and the man with me estimated that they were running about seventy miles an hour there is no doubt that they can run sixty miles with comparative ease easeI I never knew what running was until I saw those antelope they simply flew and one had a Btrauge impression that they were skimming the ground for their lees appeared only as a blur
