FAVORED ENGLISH SIRES OF THIS TIME Fashionable Lines of Descent of Roi Hcrode Tracery Btornoway The Totrarch and Gay Crusader Roi Herode represents the extreme of fashion and success in French breeding and is now himself a celebrity in English and Irish stud life He was raced in both England and France with indifferent results His principal success was in winning the 20000 Grand Prix de la Ville de Vichy at Vichy France In the Doncaster Cup of 1909 he gave Amadls a hard race and was only beaten by a half length with such formidable opponents as Dark Ronald and Dean Swift behind him Despite the fact that his racing record was not gaudy his breeding was appealing and E Kennedy took him for his Straffan Station Stud in Ireland He im ¬ mediately leaped into fame when his flying son The Tetrarch came out to make a clean sweep of his races in 1913 He has continued to make good and now has many winners to his credit and stands at a high stud fee with plentiful patronage Here is his in this country and so is American born but his ancestry is entirely English He was sent to England by Mr Belmont and raced there exclusively His first start was in the Epsom Derby of 1912 in which he ran third to Tagalie and Jaeger Then he won the St James Palace Stakes at Ascot Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and the St Leger at Doncaster and was recognized as the best threeyearold in England The next year he won the Burwell Plate was unplaced in the Ascot Gold Cup won by Prince Palatine but was thrown down in the race by a man who ran out on the course and collided with the colt then won the 50000 Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park was beaten by Cantilever in the Jockey Club Stakes and wound up hjis career by winning the Champion Stakes from Long Set He is already represented by winners in this country and England This year his son The Panther won the Two Thousand Guineas like a goo l colt then failed lamentably in the Epsom Derby His pedigree is St Albans Springfield Sainfoin Virldis Isanda terle Trocadero La Dorette Stornoway was a highpriced yearling costing E Hulton 5000 guineas or 26000 at the yearling sales of 1912 But he was a good bargaim at the price as he won 31315 in his twoyearold form He only started once as a threeyearold and then ran third in the Union Jack Stakes at the Liverpool Spring meeting An accident incapacitated him from further racing and he was retired to the stud Young as he is he has already made his mark his daughter Roseway having won the One Thousand Guineas of this year and ran second to Bayuda in the Epsom Oaks He is a richlybred horse as his I Bicycle BicycleOne One of the most marvelonsly fast twoyearolds of modern times or of all time for that matter made a modest debut in racing in a maiden twoyearold race at the Newmarket Craven meeting This was the curiously marked gray colt The Tetrarch He was third choice at 5 to 1 in the betting but never again He simply ran away from the others and won by many lengths with the favorite Mount William second The British racing public is not a bit slow about recognizing a good thing and at once adopted The Tetrarch as an exceptionally good thing to follow loyally He went right on winning in the same way of literally running away from his opponents except in one case and in succession took the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom Coventry Stakes at Ascot National Breeders Produce Stakes at Sandown Park Rons Memorial Stakes at Good ¬ wood Champion Breeders Foal Stakes at Derby and Champagne Stakes at Doncaster A great career was with excellent reason expected for him as a threeyearold but he broke down and his racing was restricted to his twoyearold days His progeny is already making a deep impression and his son Sarchedon is deemed by many the best twoyoarold in England His many laurels in the future through his coming sons and daughters His highlass lineage is isrBay rBay Ro Hamilton Lord Clifden Black Lady Luugdeii LuugdeiiGalliard L Duchess DuchessGalopin Galliard
