ROMANCE OF THE MARE INCOG SARATOGA, N. Y.. August 10. It develops that the ma re Incog; which has won nine out of her last eleven races, was iu the stud of the Davies Brothers In Canada for three years and, failing to breed, she was sold for 200. This is not the first time that mares have come back to the turf from the stud and made good. There are a number of Instances of it on the trotting turf, but the return is usually played the other way round; wilh stallions that have made a season making good. Purchase is a recent example of this. This splendid big hin-se was bred to ten marcs last spring at Ratt-cocas and if he had not injured a hind leg he would have been as good as ever, as he had all his old-time speed. T. 13. Crist deserves the credit of resurrecting Incog and effecting her comeback. In-ciileutally. it lias resulted in a fortune for him. as lie is said to have won over .CO,IH0 mi one tit her victories itloue.
