YORKISTS EXCELLENT RACE Carries 124 Pounds to Impressive Victory in Walkerville Handicap at Devonshire. WINDSOR, Out.. August 30. Closing willi a well-timed rush in the stretch M. I Roys Yorkist captured the ,000 AValkerville Handicap, fash ioned for horses foaled in Canada, which served as the feature of the third days racing at Devonshire Park this afternoon. Sir Clarence set out to inaLe a runaway affair of the race but. after racing Flame into defeat, was unable to withstand the determined bid of the winner when the final test came. Vorkist shouldered the heavy impost of 124 pounds and ran the mile in 1:39, a creditable performance in every respect. The Ford City Handicap, a three-quarters of a mile dash, run as the sixth race, served as the secondary feature and was productive of a stirring contest. The winner turned up in Judge IMls worth, which closed with a wonderful burst of speed in the stretch run and collared .Minute Man. the pacemaker, in the closing strides. After seeing their hopes realized in the opening dash of todays program when George .1. Longs Locarno wan returned the winner, the public found little to enthuse over in the results of the next three races. Photoplay was the choice in the second race. She was easily beaten b.v Fifty Fifty. Everybody thought Kncrinite was a cinch in the third, but Sir John Vergne was an easy winner. Then the sensational mare Incog failed, as did the others, falling a victim to the superior speed rf Tippo Sahib. The afternoons entertainment began with a dash of three-quarters of a mile for noiirwiuriing three year-olds and over, and the Kentucky-bred Locarm. was the choice. He made good after a -spirited stretch drive with Edna 1. and Eastward Princess. In defeating the good filly Photoplay J. J. Hertz black colt Fifty Fifty proved himself to ho one of the fastest two-year-olds seen in Canada this year. He simply smothered his opponents with his terrific speed and neither Photoplay nor Aloft could measure strides with him. . STARTER. DADE TO LEAVE FRIDAY. Starter A. B.- Dade will depart for Latonia, Ky.. o:i Friday night for the opening of the autumn raring season 011 Saturday. William Snyder will despatch the fields here on the closing dav of the meeting.
