JOCKEY SMITH ACCIDENTALLY KILLED CLARKSBURG, W. Va., September 15. Jockey Eddie Smith, one of the oldest riders in the country, was fatally injured here Tuesday afternoon at the opening of the West Virginia Fair and Racing Associations meeting when his mount, Ivanmist, stumbled and fell in the opening race. It was an easy fall, but his mount crushed his heart and lungs and death was almost instantaneous. The riders body will be sent to Pass Christian, Miss., where interment will be made from the home of his parents. Jockey B. McCann stumbled at the same spot where Smith met his deatii in one of the later races, but escaped with a shaking up.
